Session 3 of the 3-Session Spring SEL and SED Training Series (Required: Sessions 1 &  2 of this Series) ---Please register for all 3 sessions

Have you wondered what all the buzz is about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Social Emotional Development (SED)? Do you love learning about SEL and just want to know more? If you value the power of relationships with youth and want to bring a focused lens to peer relationships, social interactions, and feelings and behavior, join us for this not-to-miss SEL/SED Winter Training Series.

This 3-Part Series aims to deepen your understanding and sharpen your skills while you learn together with your peers. Themes over the three sessions will include:
  • SEL definitions and models,
  • SEL and youth of color,
  • SEL in virtual learning, SEL and learning disabilities/high needs youth, and
  • integrating SEL into your own curriculum.
The third session will primarily be a working session to incorporate the themes covered across the series.

SEL has never been more important than now. The recent report, Rebuilding for a New Normal, (https://www.gse.harvard.edu/news/uk/20/09/rebuilding-new-normal), published by the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Partnership for Resilience, emphasized that the continued impact of living through the pandemic is creating high levels of emotional stress for youth and families. The report underscored the importance of creating a sense of care and safety in our interactions with youth and their families through understanding and emphasizing SEL.

Thus, as always, our AFCOST training upon your interactions with youth and their families. There will be time for personal reflection and group discussion, and all levels and experience are welcome.

Each session is 90 min and will be offered on February 4th, 11th and 25th. Participants are expected to attend all 3 sessions in the series to receive Professional Development Credit, as each session will build upon content from the prior session. If there’s more demand for this series than we can accommodate, we will consider offering it again in another time slot.

We will be on Zoom for now, and registration details will be sent to you just before the Series begins!

  • Definition and overview of social and emotional learning and development for youth
  • Understanding SEL in the virtual learning environment, including youth with disabilities
